Does it Spark Joy? A Conversation with Your Cluttered Home, Thanks to Marie Kondo

Is what you here inside your brain while you’re dumbfounded, just standing and staring at your children running around while your man is watching the latest football game. Maybe you’re beginning to have too many items at home.

Over the years, you and your man probably have spent lots of visits in IKEA because of the delight or excitement you feel when you buy new furniture. That counts first-time-moving-in shopping, engagement shopping, marriage shopping, I-have-a-higher-paycheck shopping, we’re-gonna-have-a-baby shopping, the-baby-is-born shopping, we’re-gonna-have-another-baby shopping, the-second-baby-is-born shopping, the-eldest-is-gonna-be-a-toddler shopping, and probably we-need-a-reward shopping.

Whether it’s for your necessity or entertainment,

you are going to shop together.

During these milestones, do you really have the time to unload items you don’t use anymore or you’re just too sentimental?

Whatever the case is, your house can’t hold

all the items you’re emotionally holding on to.

IS NOW DISSOLVED thanks to Marie Kondo.

Marie Kondo is a tidying expert, bestselling author, star of Netflix’s hit show, “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo,” and founder of KonMari Media, Inc. Her tidying method lives by one virtue:

“It’s about choosing joy.”

It makes perfect sense. If you want a healthy relationship, choose someone who makes you happy. If you want a healthy social circle, choose people who make you laugh. If you want a successful career, choose a path that will make you feel prosperous. You may not have the power to choose everything, but as long as you choose wisely for the things that you can change, choose what makes you feel joy and it will lighten everything for your heart.

To choose joy, she posed a relevant question recently that has made all the positive change in our house (hopefully yours, too).

I am obsessed with cleanliness while my man is sentimental. What he calls souvenir, I call junk. No one is right, yet no one is also wrong. We are just both in the extremes. When we found out about Marie Kondo, we knew we weren’t going to fight about furniture and home décor anymore.

“Does it spark joy?”

Marie Kondo says that the house is a reflection of the soul. Whatever you choose to be inside your home shows a piece of who you are. The number of beds show how big your family is. The cleanliness of your bathroom reflects your hygiene practices, so on and so forth.

With that, you cannot accept new beginnings without leaving space for new things to come. Hence, you’ll be needing space (literally) in order for you to grow as a person.

Keep only those that are relevant. How do you know if the items are relevant? If they spark JOY.

Joy is a feeling of happiness. Our items should bring us happiness. Else, why buy them?

My man and I took every item we don’t often use and got along with throwing it or giving it away. There are some items, though, that I totally feel joy from, but he totally abhors. For those situations, we weigh how much joy it gives and what kind of happiness does it bring. Does it bring momentary happiness, or eternal happiness? E.g. He likes this painting of an RPG game but I honestly think it’s too graphic for the children. It makes him happy, but I’m not happy, and the kids will be happy about morbid things in the future. He didn’t like that, so we gave it away.

Afterward, our house looked cleaner, lighter, and more accepting of new energy. Less is more.

To help you get rid of all the extra emotion, try the aquamarine healing stone.

Aquamarine is a talisman of good luck, fearlessness and protection. It is also known as the treasure of mermaids, a stone of the Divine Feminine. The stones serves many purposes from building your courage to fight fears, to being a conduit of peace, and expression of truth with quiet wisdom rather than reaction. It is a calming, cleansing and soothing stone that inspires transparency, truth, and acceptance. It was long been believed to be the treasure of Atlantis, and has long been revered as the stone of the sea. Like the sea, it will calm you. Use this crystal to enlighten the mind of your unlimited potential, rid yourself of personal prejudice, and guide you towards a more positive outlook in life.

Carrying aquamarine has helped me understand more the emotion of my man towards an object, made me more accepting of it, and the result was a healthier relationship for both of us. This has also helped me rid of my own selfishness, and got rid of items that won’t be beneficial for us as a family.

Want your own? Look at Ananta Stone’s Calming Aquamarine Stone & Clear Quartz Necklace, and Enlightening Powder Blue Aquamarine Crystal Mala With Lotus, Buddha, or Om Charm.

Surely, your man won’t let you declutter these.

Choose happiness, and happiness will choose you.
