Inner Peace

You may have hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, or even cancer, and you may take medications for all of these, but in the end, your inner feelings control your health.

According to the Journal of Patient Experience, healing spaces have a lot of influence with patients’ healing experiences as they have an effect on the patients’ stress. When asked to define “healing space,” patients used their feelings like looking for a “sense of being cared for, a sense of home, and feelings of comfort and calm.”

In an article by the University of Minnesota, researchers found that around 70% of the population chose retreats in a natural setting when stressed. Being in nature, according to Stamatakis and Mitchell, reduces anger, fear, and stress, and in turn increases pleasant feelings.

These researchers have looked into the effects of a physical space on your healing experiences, but what about your inner emotions?

There are also many researches on the effect of stress and depression while you are undergoing a medical treatment, but what if you are not clinically diagnosed with chronic stress or depression?

Don’t wait for you to get clinically diagnosed with chronic stress and/or depression.

Remember that it is always better to prevent these with inner peace.

Inner peace is having that calm and relaxed state within you.

According to the Maltz’ Psycho Cybernetics, athletes of any sport perform better when they are relaxed and are filled with positive thoughts of scoring the goal.

The same law applies with your healing. Your recuperation is like a football game. Your system is the playing team. Your system is working to repair your body, and it will only repair well if you are calm and relaxed. A calm and relaxed mind will help your body function how it is supposed to function: by eliminating toxins.

Imagine your system trying to clean out cholesterol but you are so angry, the blood in your bloodstream moves so fast that the cells could not do their work. Or when your system is trying to burn carbs and eliminate cholesterol but you are too sad to go out and exercise. Instead, you stay in the house and sleep in the cold or drown in your own thoughts. Will these emotions make it easier for your system? No.

So how can you have more inner peace in your mind?

1. Practice meditation

Meditation

Meditation is the ultimate answer to emptying your mind of thoughts. It does not necessarily mean that you will lose your intelligence but more on clearing up your mind so that you can create space for new knowledge. Remember the saying, “Empty your cup. A cup that is full cannot take in more water”? It is very true and it applies to meditation. Overthinking can lead you to thoughts you don’t even need. Practice meditation so you can develop a habit of taking a breather when attacked by emotions and worry.

2. Assess your emotions

If you have developed the ability of taking a pause when attacked with worries, it will be easier for you to assess your emotions. Why is that important? If you are able to assess your emotions, you’ll be able to ask yourself, “Why am I feeling this way?” With no emotional bias. Once you get to the root of why you felt that way, it will be easier for you to confront whatever you are going through. For example, I am feeling really lonely. I cannot think well because I am crying and I’m finding it hard to breathe. It’s okay to feel this way, so I poured it all out of me. When I felt that it was easier to breathe I paused and really asked myself, “Why am I feeling this way?” I answered it in my mind with immediate responses.

I am lonely.

Why do I feel lonely?

What happened before I felt lonely?

My parents were arguing.

Why were they arguing?

My dad’s blood sugar level was bad. He couldn’t walk a while ago.

What can I do about this?

It is a process of asking questions. Now that I got to the root of my problem, I now know that to remove my loneliness, I can take my dad to the hospital so he can get the right medication. If he feels lonely because of getting taken to the hospital, I can ask him the questions I asked myself and from there we can try to find a solution. Talk therapy is always great. That is why you also:

3. Practice positive self-talk

Positive Self Talk

Positive self-talk is literally having a conversation with yourself about encouragements. We often talk with people and listen to what they have to say and end up feeling hurt about the bad things. We rarely check with ourselves and ask, “Hey, are you okay?” Other people’s opinions don’t matter as much because they haven’t lived a second of your life. You are the only one who knows what your life is and how to live in it. You must be the first one to know when to encourage yourself.

You may have hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, or even cancer, and you may take medications for all of these, but in the end, your inner feelings control your health.

Every time you feel down, talk with yourself.

Simple words like you can do this, you are more than this, you deserve better than this, every time you are challenged, or no one could have done it better than you, good job, you were amazing, keep being great, whenever there’s a win could do so much for your well-being, self-esteem, and confidence.

If you always feel confident and at home with yourself, worries will only pass by your mind like a cloud. Why worry when you know you got it all covered? Practicing positive self-talk will build your trust with yourself and if you trust yourself with everything, you can conquer everything.
